Silicon Valley's poorest workers tell government 'we can't live like this'

At Intels corporate headquarters in Santa Clara, California, the highly paid engineers and developers directly employed by the computer chip company wear blue identification badges.

Janitors, electricians, gardeners, security guards and cafeteria workers employed by various subcontractors wear green badges.

Its an important distinction for Nahima Aguiniga, 34, who works as a cashier and dishwasher at a cafe on the Intel campus. Blue badges get free coffee, soda and fruit; green badges have to pay.

Free food is just one of the perks Intels blue badge employees enjoy. Like other Silicon Valley tech firms, the company competes for employees with perks like ping-pong tables

Protect your pets from New Year noise with these tips -

With the New Year fast approaching, an animal rights and welfare group and an environmental group joined forceson Saturdayto remind Filipinos on how they could do their share in making the celebration of the coming year lucky and enjoyable for their pets.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and EcoWaste Coalition said that the public should show mercy to animals which are silently suffering from all the noise coming from the firecrackers and fireworks being lit during the New Year revelry.

Our four-legged friends, particularly cats and dogs, suffer in silence as firecrackers and fireworks of varying intensity are ignited in the belief that such practice can shoo away bad luck and pull in good energy and fortune, PAWS Executive Director Anna Cabrera said.

Cats and dogs are specially gifted with acute sense of hearing. Pyrotechnic explosions can cause acoustic trauma to animals that humans often take no notice of, she added.

The animal rights and welfare group said that pets could likely suffer from appetite loss, upset stomach andconfused sense of direction due to the deafening noise.

EcoWaste coalition Coordinator Aileen Lucero asked the public not to use firecrackers and fireworks as these are damaging tohuman, animal and ecosystem health.

The groups then shared how the public can make the New Year celebration less traumatic for cats and dogs:

1. Persuade members of your household to make your home a no firecracker

2. Politely tell your neighbors not to light or throw firecrackers near your home.

3. Exercise your pets during the days leading up to the New Years Eve and

in the next morning when the festivities are over and the smoke has cleared.

4. Give your pets a physical outlet for their pent up energy due to arousal

and stress.

5. Manage the environment so it is as relaxing as possible and

as less stressful as you can make it.

6. Provide your pet with a safe place to take temporary refuge. If

possible, allow your pet to stay in a quiet room such as a bedroom.

7. Close the windows, put the curtains down and play a relaxing music to

neutralize the noise from the outside to help your pets feel secure.

8. Ensure your pets access to drinking water. Make her/him pee or poo.

9. Do not yell or laugh at your pet when she/he is cowering or shaking in

fear. This is a natural response to a threat that they do not understand

and cannot avoid. CDG

How to create a system restore point shortcut in windows 10 - Duration: 2:31.

How to create a system restore point shortcut in windows 10 or create a restore point in windows 10:-

If you use the System Restore function in Windows 10 to revert your operating system to the last known stable point when it was working correctly, you might be interested in having the ability to quickly create a restore point with one click. This can be done by creating a shortcut to a command which creates the restore point. In modern Windows versions, it is especially useful because System Restore has been scaled back to create restore points far less frequently, even as low as once a week!

Before you begin, make sure you have System Restore enabled.

To create a restore point in Windows 10 with one click, you need to do the following:

Right click on the Desktop and select the command "New -Shortcut" from the context menu.

In the shortcut target, type or copy-paste the following text:

cmd.exe /k "Wmic.exe /Namespace:\rootdefault Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "%DATE%", 100, 7"

Give this shortcut the desired name and icon.

Tip: An appropriate icon is in the following file:

Now, open the shortcut's properties by right clicking it and click the Advanced... button on the Shortcut tab of its Properties. Check the option to run as administrator in the shortcut's properties -Advanced and click OK everywhere to save settings:

Now, all you need to do is run this shortcut to create the restore point. The result will be as follows:

The line "Method execution successful." indicates that everything is OK. You can use the mentioned WMIC command in batch files as well:

Wmic.exe /Namespace:\rootdefault Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "%DATE%", 100, 7
